What is Green & Away?
Green & Away is a tented sustainable non-profit events venue based in Worcestershire. We are available to hire for conferences, courses, celebrations. Established in 1990, we are also an educational charity and aim to inspire and encourage environmental and social change through experiential learning and sustainable living in practice.
How long have you been running?
Green & Away was established in 1990 and we have been hosting events and educating every summer since.
Where are you based?
You can find us located in a beautiful field between shrubs and trees and bounded by a river, near Bransford, Worcestershire. We are easily accessible by public transport with buses from Worcester to a bus stop just by the farm entrance. When you have booked, we will send you detailed travel directions including bus times, maps and descriptions of the route for cyclists, motorists and hitch hikers.
Only 7 miles from the Malvern Hills, it is an ideal location for walking, hiking and exploring the beautiful countryside, visiting the local pubs and market towns or just for those seeking an escape to nature.
What sort of events do you host?
Green & Away is open to all sorts of organisations and people looking for something a little different for their next event. We have vast experience in hosting conferences, workshops, meetings and also parties and weddings. Do you have toilets/showers/running water?
There are a number of composting toilets across the site and a set of open air wood fired showers and wash area that are available between 7 and 9 in the morning and 6 until late in the evening. We supply environmentally friendly detergents. For laundry there may be a hand washing area and a drying room (polytunnel) however there are no washing machines for guest use.
As an environmentally friendly campsite we have a minimal impact on our surroundings. We endeavour to not use harmful or strong chemicals and products; we use composting toilets; natural toiletries and detergents and all our food and water waste is put back into the land. We expect all guests to treat the land with respect or we could ask you to leave.
We have several drinking water points spread across the site.
What do I need to bring?
Unless you are hiring one of the G&A bedroom tents, you should bring your own tent and bedding. As well as the usual clothes that you’d bring camping, we recommend a torch, a towel and eco/natural toothpaste, (G&A provide soap and shampoo) and a USB/12v car mobile phone charger. Acoustic musical instruments are also welcome.
When are you open?
We usually open from mid June until the beginning of August dependent on the weather and ground conditions as well as our programme of events for the season.
How can I pay?
We accept cash and can take card payments on site.
Can I bring my dog?
No, we don’t allow dogs or any other pets on site.
Can I charge my phone?
You can charge your mobile phone, tablets, laptops and other small devices at our solar charging station. Please note that this is weather dependent and might not be available at all times, so we recommend bringing a spare battery pack.
Do you have hairdryers?
We do not allow hairdryers on site.
Do I need to bring toiletries (shampoo, toilet paper etc.)?
Environmentally friendly toiletries are provided for you. This includes shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, hand soap and toilet paper. Natural toothpaste is available to purchase. If you must bring your own toiletries, please ensure that they are environmentally friendly as our grey water is returned using a soak away system.
Do you cater for special dietary requirements?
All meals provided by Green & Away are vegetarian, with vegan and gluten free options provided with notice. We are able to cater for allergies but must be made aware in advance of your arrival.
Can I stay longer if I want to?
Unfortunately we are not open for camping outside of event periods this year therefore you cannot extent your stay or arrive earlier.
What time can I arrive/leave and where do I check in?
Please refer to your event programme for arrival and departure times.
Where’s the nearest shop?
There is a Spar shop at Leigh Sinton about 2 miles from the site as well as a garage and farm shop located at the Fold (5-minute walk).
Where is the nearest cashpoint?
The Spar at Leigh Sinton about 2 miles from the site.
Where is the nearest railway station?
The nearest station is in Worcester about 5 miles from site. There are regular buses bringing you within half a mile during the week. Please note that the buses tend to run less frequently or not at all on Sundays.
Where is the nearest petrol station?
There is a Gulf petrol station just at the end of the lane.
How far to the nearest pub?
We have a bar on-site that sells locally brewed beers (draught and bottled), ciders, spirits and organic wines as well as a variety of soft drinks, crisps and snacks. There are 2 local pubs within 20-minute walking distance (in opposite directions), both serve food. There is also a licensed organic restaurant at the top of the lane to Green & Away or some lovely pubs and restaurants around Malvern (about 4 miles from the site) or Worcester (about 5 miles).
Can I park my car?
You can park your vehicle at Green & Away, however we kindly ask you to contribute a Carbon Offset Fee (£5.00), to be donated to the Woodland Trust to plant native UK wood to negate the negative environmental effects of driving.
This can be paid at booking or upon arrival. The car park is about 200 meters from the site along a farm track.
How near can I bring my car?
You can bring your car down the track if you have any mobility needs, otherwise you must park in the car park. We can provide trolleys/barrows (and helpful volunteers!) to move your belongings.
Can I drive on site?
We do not allow cars on-site except if bringing a caravan or campervan (to be booked in advance) or for special reasons. In either case we ask you to arrange this before your arrival.
Do you have facilities for people with accessibility requirements?
Please refer to our Access Statement and call us to discuss your requirements. There is a large composting toilet with ramp access. There is a large accessible wood-fired shower with ramp access. Please note we are a field site with no man made walkways. The staff at Green & Away will endeavour to help anyone that needs assistance.
Do you have electrical hookups?
No, we do not have electrical hookups for caravans. However we do have charging facilities powered by the British sun.
Is the water safe for drinking?
Yes, there are drinking water taps on site.
Is there mobile phone reception on site?
Yes, most areas on site get some mobile reception however this is inconsistent.
Is there Wi-Fi on site?
Yes, there is Wi-Fi available in the village green near the office.
Is the site suitable for children?
Yes, we welcome children at Green & Away. Children remain the responsibility of their parents or carers at all times. There is very little vehicle movement on site and we have a tented area where small children can play. Activities for older children (accompanied by a responsible adult) include swimming in the local stream, woodland walks, exploring wooded areas and den making.
What can I come camping in?
We accept all types of tents including trailer tents along with a limited number of camper vans. If you plan to bring a camper van please let us know in advance to guarantee availability.
Are campfires allowed?
There is a central fire pit in the village green but, NO GROUND FIRES AT ALL under any circumstances at the tents or vans. We do allow wood fires but only in a container raised off the ground. A portable fire pit can be hired from Housekeeping & Hospitality. Please note this may be revoked in exceptional weather/grounds conditions.
Are barbeques allowed?
We do not allow private barbeques if attending an event.
Can I cycle places from the site safely?
Yes, there are excellent cycling facilities all around the campsite and we even have some bicycles to borrow when on-site.
Does the site get noisy?
We ask for quiet at 11.00pm, we are aware that often people want to stay up chatting after this time and we allow this as long as they are respectful of their neighbours.
Please remember that tents are not soundproof and noise travels across the site easily. Staff live on site and do come around the site checking that this rule is adhered to, however we expect individuals to know how to behave and to do so correctly. Anyone displaying behaviours deemed to be anti social by the Green & Away team may be asked to leave without refund.
